Remove DNS Unlocker

DNS Unlocker is an adware whose only goal is to change your DNS records whilst also showing tons of ads. It is actually a new version of CloudScout, and as this program does, DNS Unlocker changes without asking for your permission your DNS records placing its own parameters. We call that DNS Hijacking, and the consequences of being the victim of this kind of infection can be serious, because every website you visit could be switched with another one of a malicious kind. In some DNS Hijacking cases telling apart the legit site from the fake one can be difficult, they make sure to show a website that looks exactly like the one you’re trying to visit, however the fake site will include some device to collect personal and banking data. It is clear then that DNS Hijacking could be used for phishing.

Besides this, DNS Unlocker also shows publicity normally tagged as “ads by DNS Unlocker“. These ads can be inserted everywhere ruining the visual look of anything you visit. Your computer’s performances can also be affected due to the huge amount of resources used by DNS Unlocker to perform all these tasks.

DNS Unlocker is distributed through software packages found in streaming websites or in the most popular download platforms like download.com, softonic, 01net, clubic. Avoid at all costs to download software from this platforms and always make sure to customize any install process you start to stop unwanted programs from being installed.

  • I had this infection on my PC and ran AdwCleaner. I still got the popup ads on Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Chrome until I refreshed/reset each browser. Chrome seemed to be the worst. I uninstalled it, downloaded an updated version using Firefox and installed it. Thanks so much for providing this info. It made fixing this problem quite easy.
